I should be moving to Australia soon from the UK, and I am looking for information as to the availability of crime scene and forensic positions and if anyone can point me in the right direction. I have a 1st class BSc Honours in Forensic Science, and have done voluntary work for a toxicology laboratory and worked in the Met police in their Cold Case Rape Investigation unit, for a year, but I would like to get into crime scene work or into a forensic laboratory and get to specialise in an area ideally but now with my move to AU, I need to research options there. I don't have any contacts there at present. Do they take on civil SOCO's does anyone know? Does anyone know where these kind of jobs in Australia are posted?
in australia crime scene officers must be sworn officers! this involves being a member of the police force as an officer, undertaking general duties for a certain amount of time before being able to specialise (branch off) into crime scene duties. Each state within australia has different requirements for this specialisation.
Other areas such as laboratory work only requires certain university/tafe qualifications and can be applyed for by non sworn officers.
