I graduated with a Criminal Justice/Latent Evidence degree in 2011. Since then, I have applied to jobs across the country...from Autopsy Tech, to crime scene, to my dream job of Fingerprint Examiner. I have been told I do not have the experience for the jobs....so I have written, called, wrote letters to departments around my area asking for an opportunity to learn on the job. Said I would volunteer my time, to gain work experience, and have been denied. Please tell me how I go about getting a job with no experience, and no way to gain the experience needed..
I am about to give up and change careers. I don't want to, but it is so frustrating.
I graduated with honors, 3.8 GPA, top of my class, I have tested for position in several states, and have always ranked in the top 10, out of hundreds of applicants.
Your dream job will come. I am a retired police officer who was very fortunate to have worked for a department where supervisors recognized your skills. When people say "It's who you know" I respond, "No, it's who knows you". Get your foot in the door, at any level, in any police department. Once inside, do great work, be pleasant, courteous, respectful and the right person will recognize your potential. Then, when an opening that you want comes available, the people that know you and your abilities will be glad to give you references.
Try American Systems or Ron Smith and Associates. They are looking for Latent Print Techs and Photographers for a major government contract. I am one of the Team Leads, so let me know if you need additional info.
I am basically in the same boat.......I graduated Cum Laude in July of 2012 from an accredited online university and have had job interviews but nothing promising as of yet........I am getting so frustrated and tired of applying with no end result....I live in San Antonio Texas and I have done my internship with the police department and have recommendation letters from Officers within the SAPD and still nothing.......I feel like I went to school for nothing in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Criminal Investigations. I was on Dean's List and the President's List, I have done my internship and also I have certificates with FEMA. I understand that there are more qualified people out there doing the same thing however, I just want a chance to prove myself and they will not let me........I don't know what to do???? Can someone give me suggestions to go about this!!!! Thanks! :)
