I have a job interview for a CSI position

Alice
My interview is in 2 weeks.
I have an AA in crime scene technology and received that in 2010.
Since then I have not found any employment in the field so my knowledge of the subject is rusty.
Any ideas and pointers on what I should focus on the most to brush up on? Thank you!

Hi Alice,

Needless to say, finding a job is indeed difficult, but persistance does pay off in the long run.

I would consider reviewing some cases, which can be found in certain CSI Groups. Perhaps
researching some of the vendors to see what is new, sometimes they have videos on various topics
to watch. I would certainly look for a law enforcement agency that has a good CSI Team and ask
to ride along to "audit" their procedures. Visit a M.E. in your area or Death Investigator.
Also, you may want to consider ICSIA, which provides training and a great forum. That would be
my first choice. Mr. Hayden Baldwin is the CEO and is always willing to help. His web page
I wish you the best of luck in your interview Alice. Keep in mind that ICSIA is one of the most
proactive training web sites that will provide you with a great selection of topics and offers a very good
membership program.
Be well and take care.

I would check out dna.gov and nij.gov. These websites offer free training for all sorts of things. I take them on a regular basis and it keeps information fresh in your head. Also at the end of each class you receive a certificate of completion. If you don't have a portfolio showing your background get one. It helped me tremendously during my interview. Put your certificates in the portfolio and then you have record of the continuing education that you can show. Be confident!! I recently got hired as a Crime Scene Investigator and just knowing the basics of where DNA is found, how to process a crime scene, and photograph will help you. A professor told me to act like you already have the job and see yourself doing it. Now don't act cocky but just be yourself and natural. Make eye contact!!! You will do a fantastic job and just look into those websites and take notes. I love them and still take them. Hope this helps :-) Good Luck!

Thank you all for your advice (sorry for the delay, I've been busy and forgot to come back and check). My interview is the 24th. I'm going over some of my old textbooks and notes. My only fear is they'll see I have no on the job experience. And this is the 3rd time I've interviewed for this department! I've been on their waiting list for shadowing CSI's for over a year. Since this is the 3rd time I have a very good idea on what they'll ask and how to answer most questions. Hopefully 3rd times a charm! I'll keep you updated and in the meantime I'm going to be checking out these websites you have given! Thank you again!
