evidence/crime scene photographer looking for employment oportunities

jay
Hello all,

Just came across this network and have found a lot of great information.
I am new to the field of evidence/crime scene photography. I am a certified evidence photographer who has just changed career paths from portrait/wedding into this field. I am looking for any networking possibilities that can possibly lead to employment and of course the exchange of information. I am located in the greater phoenix area, however, I am not against moving to another place.
If you have any leads and or suggestions for me i would greatly appreciate any and all help in securing a position.

Thanks in advance,

Jay Statland, CEP

Jay—

I would strongly suggest you join the Evidence Photographers International Council (EPIC). You can develop good contacts and their annual training conference (Imaging USA) offers great lectures and workshops.

There are two basic areas for evidence/crime scene photography. One is law enforcement and the other is working with attorneys and insurance companies as a civil evidence photographer.

Very few law enforcement agencies have specialists who only do photography. Most agencies have photography as one of the duties for evidence technicians or criminalists. So at most places you would have to be an evidence technician or criminalist to be able to use your photographic talents. (That is what I did.)

Occasionally there are job openings posted for Forensic Photographer on the employment page of this website.

Working with attorneys and insurance companies to provide evidence photography is the other way to go. You can find good information on that through EPIC—the majority of the members of EPIC are civil evidence photographers.

Where did you get certified as an evidence photographer?
