I found this sentence in a homicide victims autopsy:

"The axial skeleton and hyoid bone are cleaned."

The body was found outside, maggot infested and partially skeletonized after days of going undiscovered.  What does the word "cleaned" mean in that sentence?  Any help would be appreciated.
